Blue Tit

(Cyanistes caeruleus)

Blue tits are the chirpy, happy faces we all want to see in our back gardens. Blue-capped and yellow-chested, these small tits are just 11.5cm long and are extremely common visitors on our feeders, with 3.6 million resident blue tits in the UK alone.

Females and males have a very similar plumage, although males are usually brighter. Egg clutches can be as large as 19, although are typically in the range of 7-13. However, this means that blue tit parents have to work overtime to bring home small insects for hungry chicks.

They are the circus performers of the garden bird world and it is not uncommon to find agile blue tits hanging upside down from your feeder as they select the best seed! Hyperactive blue tits can regularly be heard using their vibrant ‘tsssee tsssee’ call to communicate with their nearby mates.

Diet

Insects, beech mast and seed.

RECOMMENDED FOOD

Henry Bell Blue Tit Blend is a great feed option for this small bird, specifically designed to give the blue tit all the extra energy it needs. The Blue Tit Blend offers a nutritious seed mix for all members of the tit family. Make sure to provide clean water nearby to your feeders to allow blue tits to wash down dry seed after each meal.
